The further out you go from the core of Palma, the more affordable hotels you will find, which also means more chain hotels.
For me, proximity and being able to walk to places, and return easily to my hotel for a rest or change of clothes makes the other hotel collections more desirable. This is why this list is fairly limited. I’ve also included only independent or boutique hotels, which I prefer supporting over chain hotels.
The two hotels listed are about a 5 min taxi ride, or 30 - 40 minute walk from central Palma. One is west of Palma, close to the marina, and the other is east, in Portixol and right in the heart of their marina. These hotels are nicer ones in their respective areas, that are still under €400 per night.

For a neighbourhood vibe and classic hotel in El Terreno, I recommend the Can Quetglas Boutique Hotel, newly opened in 2022. Housed in a restored modernist building dating from 1908, that was designed by a disciple of GaudĂ, it evokes a mix of whimsy with old world charm. Each of the 9 rooms are unique and different, with an exquisite combination of architecture, design and modernist art. The hotel offers a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, private parking, a garden and a rooftop terrace.
A few blocks up from the seawall and marina, and a close hike up to the Bellver Castle, this is a great place to stay if you want to feel nestled into a residential area without a lot of foot traffic. Plus, you’re close to some really great new El Terreno restaurants, cafés and everything that’s been a part of that brilliant neighbourhood revival so far.

Also in El Terreno are the aptly named Terreno Suites. This is the second of our El Terreno hotel recommendations, this one stands out as a good value for an apartment hotel, and is also one with a pool. As mentioned above, being close to Santa Catalina means access to a lot of great restaurants and cafes. And, with the more recent and ongoing revival of the Gomila neighborhood in El Terreno, there are also a few standout spots to eat close to the hotel, as well as the vintage Mercat 1930 close by.
Housed in more of a 1970s-ish building, that has only 13 units, Terreno Suites are furnished with modern and comfortable furniture. Suites include a fully equipped kitchen (dishwasher, oven, microwave, coffee machine and a kettle), living area, balcony, and private bathrooms. Guests can enjoy a decent size outdoor swimming pool, sun terrace, and private parking on site.

Located right by the Club Nà utic Portixol, the half hour stroll from Palma to the Portixol Hotel along the seawall is one of my favorite walks. With a sea-side view for the entire walk, if you’re someone who enjoys this type of daily movement, this might be a good choice for you.
The hotel is essentially at the start of Portixol, and there are some good restaurants and a great yoga studio just a bit farther east. For being a ways away, it is a bit pricier, but a lot of the rooms do offer a seaside view. Rooms are Scandinavian in design, and there is a large outdoor pool.
